HNSS is India’s largest lift irrigation scheme. This is the first time in India, where pumping stations were constructed with a capacity to lift water to record altitudes and subsequently to the most distant lands.

Compared to the HNNS project, Devadula project of Telangana, which is still under construction, will pump water to higher altitudes. The highest altitude in HNSS project is 438 meters, whereas Devadula targets to reach 510 meters

In terms of power consumption, Devadula project will require 448 MW, whereas HNSS project requires 775 MW. Therefore, HNSS is the largest scheme in India while factoring in its total length, power consumption, and number of pumping stations.

Each pumping station consists of 12 high capacity pumps and motors. These pumps lift water to a height of 200 meters. At Malyala village in Kurnool district, the elevation is 254 meters, and at the eighth pumping station, it is 438 meters. All the pumping stations were constructed by MEIL
